“We’ve Got Your Back”
ClassBrain was happy to join with Do Something and Nickelodeon in getting the word out about an initiative to collect backpacks stuffed with new school supplies and personal items for the kids affected by Hurricane Katrina. The campaign was called “We’ve Got Your Back.”
How did they do?
More than 60,000 backpacks full of supplies made it to kids who were displaced, because of Hurricane Katrina! Way to go everyone!
There is now a new drive through Do Something to collect jeans to help homeless teenagers. You may know someone who was homeless at some point. Why don’t you start a local drive at your school to help them out? You will turn a difficult time into one of caring.

Each year at the start of school, there is usually a backpack drive similar to the one run for the Katrina survivors. You can get a jump on assembling those by starting at the end of the school year. That way you can use the summer to assemble the backpacks and materials for kids in your area who need some additional help getting ready for school.
To help with these other efforts, we’ve put together these suggested supply lists:
Here is our suggested school supply list, which will give you an idea of what you could include in the backpack. This list is recommended for elementary school students.
